Nyangoma Division is blessed with rich soils, flowing streams, and a vibrant ecosystem that sustains thousands of lives. But years of deforestation, soil erosion, and unpredictable weather patterns have put these natural resources at risk.
Nyangoma Development Organisation (NYADO) recognises that the health of our environment directly affects the health of our people. Through our Environment and Climate Action programs, we are working to protect, restore, and sustainably manage the natural resources that the Nyangoma community depends on.
Our approach combines community awareness, practical conservation initiatives, and training on climate-smart livelihoods — ensuring that both people and the planet thrive.
To combat deforestation and land degradation, NYADO leads extensive tree planting campaigns in schools, churches, marketplaces, and homesteads.
We mobilise community groups to participate in environmental clean-ups, riverbank protection, and reforestation projects. Through these activities, we are reviving degraded lands while nurturing a sense of environmental ownership among residents.
“Each tree we plant is a promise to the next generation.”
Your support helps us protect our environment, conserve water, and plant more trees for a greener tomorrow. Join hands with NYADO to create a lasting legacy of sustainability.
Water is life — and protecting our local water sources is a community duty. NYADO supports the installation of water harvesting systems, promotes the digging of shallow wells, and encourages responsible water usage. Our teams work with schools and households to promote sanitation and hygiene, reducing disease outbreaks and improving overall health outcomes.
Many families in Nyangoma rely on farming for their livelihoods. However, changing weather patterns and poor farming methods have led to reduced productivity. To address this, NYADO trains farmers on climate-smart agricultural practices, including: Crop diversification Organic farming and composting Soil conservation techniques Use of drought-resistant crops These practices not only increase yields but also preserve soil fertility and ecosystem balance.
Young people play a key role in securing Nyangoma’s future. NYADO engages youth groups and school clubs in environmental programs that promote eco-consciousness, innovation, and entrepreneurship. From running community nurseries to engaging in waste recycling and clean energy initiatives, Nyangoma’s youth are proving that environmental conservation can go hand in hand with economic empowerment.
NYADO collaborates with government departments, local schools, and environmental agencies to expand the reach of our initiatives. We also work closely with other community-based organisations to integrate environmental awareness into all sectors — from education to livelihoods. By partnering with institutions like the County Government of Siaya, faith-based organisations, and local stakeholders, NYADO ensures that every environmental action contributes to lasting impact.
